There are three main service project that Encounter Christian Church is focused on.

1) Burgers in the Flood Plain

On the last Sunday of the month right after church a group from Encounter Christian Church goes to the old A&W on Ellis Blvd. We set up a grill and go door to door for a few square blocks inviting those working on their homes to come and eat. Our goal is to let the community know God loves them and to encourage them as they rebuild.

For those wishing to volunteer these are the options available: grilling burgers, walking door to door to invite people, setting up the tables and chairs, baking cookies, tearing down the tables and chairs, and talking with our guest.

2) Refugee Outreach

Periodically throughout the year a group from Encounter travels to Des Moines Iowa to work with a group of refugees who are living in poverty. Many of these refugees have seen civil war and some have been the victims of attempted genocide. In addition, many of these refugees are our Christian brothers.

In the fall of 2009 we did a one day VBS outreach with food, games, lesson, drama, worship and prayer.

We also made a trip in Oct. to size the children for coats and winter boots because many don't have money for these basic items.

3) Cleaning the Ellis Park Church of God church building

Ellis Park Church of God has a beautiful building they generously share with us. We offered to clean the building for them each week and in return it keeps our rent a bit lower. This is a simple weekly job where we connected with each other and help out our brothers and sisters from EPCOG.
